A 10-point pre-release checklist for independent musicians

The to-do list before releasing a song looks long, but in order it is manageable:

  1. Mix and master done? Check on different speakers and a phone.
  2. Ownership and rights holders settled in writing? Composer, lyricist and arranger shares.
  3. Cover art square, high resolution and legible when small?
  4. Credits and metadata (title, genre, ISRC) ready?
  5. Apply for distribution at least two weeks ahead.
  6. Write a short pitch: what is the song about and who is it for?
  7. Send it to curators. Pitch one track to several lists to find first listeners.
  8. Plan short video or visual content.
  9. Prepare a release-day message and collect links in advance.
  10. After release, record the feedback; it is the most valuable input for the next track.

When you submit to Flowmüzik you receive a note from each curator, a roadmap for your next release.
